January 29, 2014 - Over winter break, Cardozo students participated in two seminars abroad: Cambodia at a Crossroads and Asylum Access Ecuador.

In Ecuador, the group partnered with AAE, an Ecuadorian NGO that provides representation to refugees. Students assisted in their endeavor to provide legal counsel and representation, advice on rights of asylum seekers in Ecuador, and engage in policy advocacy for greater fairness in the refugee status determination process. The trip included sight-seeing and exploring.

In Cambodia, students explored a variety of legal issues, including land rights and the issue of “land grabbing,” the problem of gender discrimination and sex trafficking, labor rights, international corporate social responsibility, and transitional justice with a focus on criminal prosecutions. They traveled to Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, and visited the temples of Angkor.
