June 24, 2013 - Dean Matthew Diller has announced that Betsy Ginsberg will join the full-time faculty at Cardozo School of Law as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Law.
"As Betsy's work in our Immigration Justice Clinic makes clear, she is a dedicated and skilled teacher, a gifted advocate, and a great mentor to our students," said Dean Diller. "It is wonderful that she has joined our ranks."
Professor Ginsberg has been teaching at the law school as a visiting faculty member, helping to oversee the Immigration Justice Clinic. She will be starting the Civil Rights Clinic in Spring 2014.
Previously, Professor Ginsberg was a member of the lawyering faculty at NYU School of Law from 2007 to 2009. Prior to that, she was a staff attorney at the Prisoners' Rights Project with the Legal Aid Society in New York City, where she litigated federal class action lawsuits seeking to reform jails and prisons in New York City and New York State with respect to disability rights, mental health care, and prison guard brutality.
Professor Ginsberg has been the recipient of two public interest fellowships: the Soros Justice Postgraduate Fellowship to support her work at the Prisoners' Rights Project; and the NAPIL Equal Justice Fellowship, which funded her work at the Prison Law Office in San Quentin, California, where she litigated class action institutional reform lawsuits on behalf of California prisoners and parolees. Professor Ginsberg's scholarship explores issues relating to access to courts for civil rights litigants with a particular focus on barriers to relief for institutionalized persons.
