April 23, 2018 - As the Tribeca Film Festival takes New York City by storm, Cardozo’s own Indie Film Clinic had a role in the action as they presented, in partnership with Tribeca Film Institute, a pop-up clinic which offered free legal advice to filmmakers around the city.
Filmmakers were invited to the clinic, held at Cardozo Monday, April 23, and had the opportunity to meet with teams of students who were able to offer guidance on a wide variety of legal needs, including issues such as entity formation, licensing and distribution.
Emily Di Roma, a 3L student and Eitan Bender, a 2L, have been working together in the advanced clinic since August of 2017. Di Roma said, “I’ve always been around creative people and had a desire to help my musician friends with the non-creative side of the work." Bender said the clinic “seemed like a great opportunity to get exposure to transactional work and entertainment law, and learning about it while practicing it is extremely unique.”
The pop up clinic was the second TFF-related event that the students participated in; the first was a panel discussion during the opening day of the festival, at a restaurant in the Meatpacking district, during which IFC director Michelle Greenberg-Kobrin and the students spoke about legal necessities for filmmakers.
